KOHL TEACHER FELLOWSHIP SCORING GUIDE

 

The following scoring guide is provided to application screening committee members to assist them in rating applications. It will also help applicants, or potential applications, understand how their completed application will be evaluated.
 
I. PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION AND EXPERIENCE   
   This section is provided for informational purposes only. It will not be scored.    
       
II. ESSAY QUESTIONS      
   Give three ratings for each response according to the scale provided.
The higher the number, the more positive the attribute.
          
   1 - 6.   
         Thoroughness of Response
         Uniqueness of Response
         Quality of Response
       
  
III.LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION      
   Instructions to applicants: Three letters of recommendation should be attached.

Letters of recommendation should address the criteria and speak to the candidate's specific skills and contributions. At least one of the three recommendations must come from someone outside your immediate school community who is not currently employed by the school district or a board member, such as former students, parents, community members, colleagues in a professional association not directly linked to your school district, a university or college professor, etc.

Each of the three letters should be rated separately and on both criteria listed.

       
   1 - 4.   
        (category of writer: i.e., friend, administrator, etc.)    
        (a) Number of specific examples
        (b) General level of support for what the applicant provided in essays
       
    0 = none
1 = some support,some questionable
2 = substantiates applicant's information
3 = highly supportive
4 = extremely supportive and beyond
       
IV.OVERALL APPLICATION      
   On a scale of 1-8, rate the overall quality of this applicant's package, with 8 being the highest quality. Also consider the extent to which the total "picture" of the teacher matches the purpose and criteria of the Kohl Teacher Fellowship program.
